Our CSA program provides individuals and families with weekly boxes of organic, locally grown, seasonal fresh produce. CSA members make a commitment to support our farm throughout the season, and share in the bounty and the risks of growing food. By joining our CSA, members are developing a regional food supply and strong local economy, maintaining a sense of community, encouraging land stewardship, and honoring the direct link between the production and consumption of food.

How our CSA Works

Our CSA program provides individuals and families with weekly boxes of certified organic, seasonal fresh produce grown at Blue

House Farm. Each week CSA members pick-up their box at a predetermined time from a given drop-off site. Consumers

pay to be members before the season begins, which gives the farm the necessary income to pay for seeds, compost,

machinery repair, fuel, labor, and other preseason and ongoing expenses. In return we supply you with a share in the bounty

from the farming season. As a member you will receive a weekly CSA newsletter. We will keep you up to date with what vegetables

are included in your box, creative recipes on how to make use of them, general news on the farm, natural history happenings,

poetry, farm-related events, etc… The season begins in mid-May and concludes in early November.

What is in a Box

Each week we harvest a mix of vegetables fresh from the field to include in your box. We estimate a box is full of enough

vegetables to feed 2-4 people each week, depending on a households appetite and cooking routine. A box typically

contains between 8-15 different items. We try and keep the boxes varied and exciting.

Add-on Options:

        Flower Bouquet Option

We will be offering a limited number of flower bouquets to CSA members. Bouquets will be made from organically grown

flowers from Blue House Farm that will vary with the seasons. Bouquets will be beautifully arranged and will contain a

generous number of stems, enough  to fill a medium sized vase. Bouquets are available to pick-up at the Pescadero, Half

Moon Bay, and Palo Alto locations only.

Growing the Crops

We farm using organic techniques that care for and sustain healthy soil, encourage plant, insect and wildlife

biodiversity and are ecologically sustainable for both the farm and its surrounding open space. We fertilize our soil

with natural compost and cover crops, manage pest and disease problems with mild, organically approved sprays

(used only when needed,) and maintain good soil by using minimal tractor tillage and appropriate implements. We

believe that healthy soil produces a healthy plant and healthy plants are more resistant to problems, better tasting

and healthier for the consumer. We are certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers(CCOF).

Help Support a Family In-Need

This season we are proud to introduce the CSA Assistance Program. The CSA Assistance Program is a collaborative effort of Blue

House Farm and Puente de la Costa Sur which will make CSA memberships available to low-income families at a reduced rate.

With your help, we hope to raise funds to subsidize membership costs for families who have limited access to this community’s

bounty of fresh, local produce. The administration of this year’s pilot program is being run entirely on a volunteer basis. A gift of

$450 will go directly towards providing fresh produce for one family for our entire 25 week season. A gift of $225 will provide

fresh produce for one family for half of a season. If you would like to donate to support the CSA Assistance Program you

may do so on your CSA sign-up form, or by sending a check to Blue House Farm, 2601 Cloverdale Road, Pescadero, CA

94060 with a memo stating “Assistance Fund.” For questions regarding the new CSA Assistance Program please contact

Katie Hannon at: katie.hannon@sbcglobal.net or by phone at 510-367-5572.

Payment Plans

We prefer for payment is to be made in full prior to the beginning of the season. If full payment is not feasible for you, half of your

payment may be made now and the remaining amount may be included on a post-dated check for May 1, 2008. This payment option

is only for Blue House Farm CSA and Flower Bouquet Option. The Goat Cheese Option must be paid in full to Harley Farms.
